A Prayer for Lindsay Lohan

Dear Lord,

I read that Lindsay Lohan was caught sniffing cocaine and drinking Vodka again after her self-imposed rehab. Before I flipped the page, I said "What a pity, I feel for her." Then I stopped myself. I then decided to say a powerful prayer for her - that someone who had physical access to her would love her - and would be a good friend to her.

Fame does many insane things to people surrounding the famous person. That's simply too bad that people don't know how hard it is not to be recognized as a real person- but as a role you simply played on a large plank of wood or on a long reel of photosensitive paper - and in today's case, terabytes of video footage.

I pray that that someone would simply start showing her what a real normal friendship should be. I'm thinking of quiet walks, no showbiz talks, occasional fights, lots of laughter and thoughful but simple gifts.

No more of this "You're an actress, so you're rich so you should treat us or give us access to other "stars". When they introduce her to other people who they know, they don't state the obvious and say "This is Lindsay Lohan, you know?" Just introduce her by her nickname - whatever it is. And act normal so people will also act normal when she's around.

And I pray that these friends would really talk to her seriously and do things like real friends to preserve the friendship. Things like saying "How are you doing?" and then really listening to her talk - maybe for two hours or days. Just so she can get all that pressure out of her. I pray for friends who would lead her to pursue different but peaceful pursuits, like meditation or yoga or aerobic dancing for instance. I pray for friends who don't worship adrenaline --but have clean fun anyway.

I know prayers are powerful. Written prayers maybe more-because many people can pray along with it - and it can be repeated in another day.

I pray these blessings of imperviousness to media attacks on her life and family. At least for now, while she is recovering - that she would finally understand how to deal with the rapid press that just wants a "STORY" out of each breath and step she takes. Maybe no one has really done it in Stardom--but perhaps it's time little Lindsay becomes the first.

Amen.

Going to Singapore in Sept and Malaysia in Sep/Oct

I'm going to Singapore in Sept and Malaysia in Sep/Oct--any body wanting
to go also?

Nuff said.

Naning, Jeeldz and Arlene we will meet again!

Carry The Light - Various CCM Artist

This makes me cry. One several fronts.

1. The Hair. Oh my. Were we like that before?
2. I can tell who they are from voice but hardly from their faces. CCM videoes were rare back then.
3. It brings back memories of how I started.

What's wrong with the Philippine National Anthem?

Sing the last part of the song and try to understand what it means and
you'll see why we as a nation have remained oppressed and poor.

More later.

Karaoke Secret Revealed! The one single rap "song" I've been mastering in videokes.

This portion of a very familiar song is something I've been singing
quite often in Videokes for years!

Can you guess what it is?

"all this time I can't believe I couldn't see
kept in the dark but you were there in front of me
(I've been sleeping a thousand years it seems
got to open my eyes to everything)
without a thought without a voice without a soul
(don't let me die here)
there must be something more.....!"

What is your Karaoke Secret?
Do you know the song?

Who has Hoku's "Perfect day" complete album?

During the opening sequence of Legally Blonde, the song "Perfect day"
played almost entirely. The scene showed Reese Witherspoon in bed in her
sorority room --and preparing to go to school. That song (not the scene)
left a mark in my mind.

Now I'm on the hunt for someone who has a copy of Hoku's entire album.
Who has it??

Note: Tried to upload more Iphone pictures -this time comparing it with
other mobile phone sizes but what do you know? Blogger isn't responding!

An iPhone without the phone

Reports from Taiwan suggest that Apple may launch next month a new iPod that looks, feels and works like an iPhone, but without the phone part.

DigiTimes, a Taiwan-based publication that often leaks details about local companies that make electronic components for companies worldwide, says Taiwan-based Wintek has won a large touchscreen display contract for Apple's next media player.

Other reports suggest the next-generation iPod could come out as late as January, which would allow the iPhone to dominate 2007 holiday sales.

If Apple does ship an iPhone-like iPod, it would likely prove popular. Millions want the advanced, multitouch interface of the iPhone, but balk at moving to AT&T, dumping their 80GB iPods for 8GB iPhones, or moving from a 3G phone to EDGE data speeds.

Assuming new iPods run OS X as rumored, and come in at reasonable prices (such as under $300 as one analyst predicted) Apple would probably kill stand-alone DVD movie-player gadgets for good.

The downside for Apple might be damage to iPhone sales. A next-gen iPod could also create a conundrum for iPhone users who bought the expensive phone for the iPod functionality, which will likely be superior in the stand-alone iPod.

Free software gives PC access from iPhone

An independent developer named Nate True modified an open source application that provides remote access to a PC desktop to work on Apple iPhones. The result is WebVNC, the first remote-desktop application for the iPhone. The application, which is free, reportedly works over both EDGE and Wi-Fi iPhone connections. Once connected, you can use your desktop PC from anywhere, and even zoom and pan on the desktop.

Gadget puts cell calls on landline

IntelliTouch's new XLINK box employs Bluetooth to let you use a landline phone to take the calls from up to three cell phones. It's ideal for people who don't want to carry cell phones at home, and especially those with more than one cell phone. Caller ID information is pushed to the home phone's display, and enables the use of cell phone features like voice dialing, speed dialing and voicemail access, all from the landline phone.

Listening to Juno Reactor

I don't know who started the Matrix sound but I know is after the Matrix used Juno Reactor as main soundtrack and movie song artist -- the Juno Reactor sound got melding into the Matrix.

Who is Juno Reactor?

Juno Reactor is a musical and performing act known for the cinematic-psychedelic fusion of electronic and global music, the Matrix score and other film works. Central to the project are Ben Watkins, Mike McGuire and Stephane Holweck, and their collaborations with a constantly changing ensemble of musicians from across the world, including percussionist Mabi Thobejane from South Africa along with countrymen Amampondo, Eduardo Niebla, Steve Stevens, Greg Ellis, Taz Alexander and recently Ghetto Priest.

Originally Juno Reactor was formed as an art project in 1990; Ben Watkins wanted to collaborate with other artists to produce and be involved in exciting projects that were not commercially driven. He wanted to create experimental music/non musical soundtracks that would work with installations, art pieces and film projects. -Wikipedia

Appearances

Their remix of Traci Lords' song Control as an instrumental was featured on the soundtrack for the Mortal Kombat movie. They returned for the sequel Mortal Kombat Annihilation with tracks like Conga Fury. Later, the group, in collaboration with Don Davis, had a number of tracks featured on the soundtracks for the Matrix series of films and video games (most notably the famous freeway chase scene in The Matrix Reloaded, which featured Mona Lisa Overdrive, as well as the Animatrix, which featured the tracks Masters Of The Universe on the short Kid's Story, and Conga Fury (Animatrix Remix) on Final Flight of the Osiris. Their single Guardian Angel was featured as the opening theme of the anime series Texhnolyze. Guardian Angel was also featured in the movie Drive starring Mark Dacascos and Kadeem Hardison. Other Juno Reactor tracks appear on movies such as Eraser, Virtuosity, Lost In Space, the Romeo + Juliet trailer, Beowulf and even Once Upon a Time in Mexico. Juno Reactor soundtracks have also been played during baseball, basketball, and gridiron football games, the Japanese Grand Prix, and appear on the PlayStation game Jet Moto 3 and also PlayStation 2's Frequency, as well as the Xbox game Mad Dash Racing. Juno Reactor also scored the entirety of the Mark of Kri game. Also did God is God for the 1999 version of Beowulf.

Juno Reactor has also made a song in the game Dance Dance Revolution Ultramix 4.

What's in the name?
  • The name Juno is the name of Jupiter's wife from Roman myth. In this fashion, Juno Reactor symbolizes a "powerhouse of the ancient religions".[citation needed]
  • One of the band's logos is actually a form of the symbol associated with the asteroid Juno.

First Hand Experience with an Apple IPHONE (in MANILA, Philippines)

First Hand Experience with an IPHONE (in MANILA, Philippines)

Spent some time playing with an Iphone by Apple.

Wish I could upload the vids and pix now but our company has blocked almost all the file uploads and I can't remember the Flickr post to blog email address. HMPH! Hehe. Anyway all I can say about it is --wait for the pictures and here are some first impressions:

1. My officemate tried using Wifi in Robinson's mall. Worked!

2. Gorgeous pictures even on close up. Who cares if it doesn't have zoom?

You just need to get close to get macro shots of the face. My N70 doesn't work on close-ups this good. It's like using a PalmPilot to take pictures, the whole screen's a viewfinder. And when you click on the CAPTURE button - virtual camera shutters appears. This is identical to the ones that close on James Bond's movie's opening screen (after he shoots the audience/camera). Then you can shoot again.

Yes, you can shoot almost in sequence using this. The delay isn't that bad (as said in Twit's latest episode) and is NOWHERE near the N70's ultra slow sequence shot. Yes, it's even better than using the N70's "Shoot in Sequence" mode.

3. Coverflow? I had a hard time looking for the coverflow ICON or button. No need! Just click on the IPOD icon then music, then FLIP the iphone horizontally--and COVERFLOW will appear. Don't blame me if I didn't memorize Steve "the Master" Job's Iphone presentation, its 200MB and using my constantly disconnecting GlobeDSL connection -- I wasn't able to get my own copy to watch it repeatedly. I went to a CAFÉ just to watch it in parts using YouTube!

4. Just like an IXUS camera, you flip the phone horiz or vertical and the picture (photos) will re-orient.

5. Played with the Zoom and Unzoom finger movements on the glass screen. Nice way to browse photos by flipping the fingers. What was intuitive was to try to make rotating motions on the photos displayed (like an ipod wheel). Of course the picture DID NOT rotate or change orientation permanently (saved). Maybe this is a feature for the future.

5. Playing Videos. NO - this only works in landscape (horizontal orientation) mode. Flip the iphone and the video stays in landscape mode. Moving fast forward is just a screen tap and a drag on the progress bar. Nice. Yes, it will be difficult if you have stubby fingers. Jobs recommends the thumbs. I don't know, I used my index.

The unit I played with had several movies in it. Watch out for the Youtube videos I made of it playing. It has its own good quality Speakers!

More later. Have to go back to work. Of course this is exciting. If this were you - I'm sure you would be.

I am now totally playing with an Original Apple Iphone ..in the

Lotus Note Burn

It's evident why people still use Lotus notes in this age of Microsoft
Dominated Outlook and Exchange. It's the programmable databases that
serve as dynamic knowledge dumps for huge groups.

Too bad notes was designed by people who have no regard for the WINDOWS
(or even the MAC) Rules of programming. Right clicks sometimes will give
you missing Methods (copy, cut, paste, but hey, no delete??). You'll
have to access these functions in another menu called "ACTIONS".

1. I discovered this when I was trying to delete a folder in NOTES.
Good Luck. It's completely counter intuitive. (Delete it using, Action,
Folder Options (bypassing the Folder menu option), Delete.

2. How about trying to resize tables in Notes?

If you're an office user you'd probably look for the properties tab or
do a right click or position the cursor along the lines of the table.

NONE of these work.

Up to now--I still don't know.

3. How about doing a standard search for emails sent by A to B?
You first click MORE, then Index your inbox.
Wait wait wait for the index to finish.
Then click around 3 dialog boxes (you search the address book) to fill
up a form that says
Author contains XXXX.
Then you press search.
Even after doing that --- NOTHING appears when I know that the person
XXXX is in the inbox as an author.

All I can say is.
Primitive Love.

4. I suppose people who can make NOTES fly can be called Experts in the
true sense of the word. You really have to be an expert because, I'm
sorry HACKS, ya can't hack this one!

Protecting Corporate Assets

5. Lets wait for it to die and be replaced by a better CMS/Knowledge
Management system. Come to think of it even CMSs like Mambo and Joomla
are unfriendly.

I have a toyota FJ Cruiser

This one is for rainy and fun days. Seats 5. 2 Doors. Tall. Based on both the Rav4 and the old Land Cruisers.

Very nice.

Now that I'm rich beyond

Now that I'm rich beyond the level of riches I ever had in the past...
Things will change..for the better.
And somethings will stay the same.

It's going to be different however, only if I'm not prepared.
But I am prepared, I've listed down how the money will be spent and invested.

Two times.

But I think that is not enough.

I have to write to down in more detail.

Draw it.

Color it.

Picture it.

How many lightbulbs does it take to change the world?

Changing Scotland's lightbulbs to energy efficient models would cut annual carbon dioxide emissions by about a quarter of a million tonnes a year, according to environmentalists - and save £88 million.

Yet while Australia and the Canadian province of Ontario have recently pushed ahead with bans on the old bulbs, green campaigners claim the situation in Scotland is fast becoming a bad joke.

Far from following in Australian footsteps, MSPs do not even have the power to enforce a ban even if they wanted to.

Moves such as forcing all public bodies to use the bulbs have not been fully implemented, they claim.

Earlier this week, Iain Smith MSP for North East Fife, tabled a motion in the Scottish Parliament which included the entreaty to "encourage all those who use incandescent light bulbs to switch to fluorescent energy-saving bulbs as part of the fight against climate change, and call on the Executive to consider further ways to accelerate the full uptake of energy-saving light bulbs in Scotland."

But The Scotsman can reveal that the issue is tied up by constitutional politics and international agreements.

The Scottish Executive has no power to ban products; that lies with Westminster. But Westminster says free trade rules prevent the UK from acting unilaterally and only the European Union can legislate.

At the EU level, the process stalls altogether, with countries expressing good intentions, but no sign of impending action.

Even the suggestion that Scotland could make all public buildings use energy efficient bulbs is mired in bureaucracy and the legalities of whether the Holyrood or Westminster has the final say.

Stuart Hay, head of research and policy at Friends of the Earth Scotland, said ending the use of tungsten bulbs would mean a 2 per cent cut in energy use in the UK - the equivalent of shutting down an entire power station.

He added the problem with legislation north of the border highlighted the "limitations of the devolved powers Scotland has".

He said: "It would be great if the Scottish Executive found a way to produce a similar result as being produced in Australia."

But he added: "At the least, there could be some form of push to make sure that power companies subsidise the sale of energy-efficient bulbs in Scotland."

Mr Hay called on the Scottish Executive, even if it could not legislate on its own, to use its clout with UK MPs to push for new legislation on lighting.

Although using energy efficient light bulbs seems like a win-win situation - they cut emissions and save money - surveys by the Energy Saving Trust trust reveal that millions of consumers are not changing.

While 70 per cent of people say they have at least one low- energy bulb, or CFL as they are known, 30 per cent are still apparently resistant to the idea.

Mike Thornton, head of the Energy Saving Trust's Scottish team, believes legislation or guidelines requiring all public buildings to fit them would help convert some of the doubters.

"[Bringing in guidelines] could be done and it probably would send some very powerful signals. It would save them such a large amount of money," he says.

And the benefits would not simply arise from using less electricity. Low-energy bulbs last on average 12 times as long as standard ones.

Even if it costs £10 to get someone with health and safety approval and a ladder to change a bulb in a civil servant's office, library or public swimming pool, the savings would mount up.

Australia is not the first country to make the switch to energy-efficient lighting. Cuba launched a similar programme two years ago, inspiring the Venezuelan president, Hugo Chavez, to launch his own lightbulb giveaway scheme.

And, in California, there is proposed legislation dubbed the "How Many Legislators Does It Take to Change a Lightbulb Act". This is a question you may regret trying to ask in Europe.

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Executive said: "Product regulation is reserved to Westminster so in terms of an all-out ban on non-energy efficient lightbulbs it's not within the jurisdiction of the Scottish Parliament."

It is the Scottish Executive's policy to use low-energy bulbs "wherever possible" and they have replaced traditional bulbs "in the vast majority of [Executive] buildings where practicable".

"However, there are some areas where less efficient forms of lighting are still in use because of the nature of the fittings involved," an Executive spokeswoman said.

It is understood that the parliament could, depending on the terms of a bill, vote to compel Scottish public buildings such as schools and offices, to switch to energy efficient lighting.

What about Westminster? At the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, a spokeswoman was keen to stress that "we very much support the decision by the Australian government to phase out standard light bulbs".

However she went on to add: "The UK government - nor any other EU member state - cannot by itself introduce mandatory minimum standards for lightbulbs, which would inhibit their free trade on the basis of their energy efficiency.

"We continue to press the European Commission to make lightbulbs a priority for regulatory action under the Eco-Design for Energy Using Products (EUP) framework directive. We would welcome prompt and ambitious action by the EC."

This prompted some head-scratching at the Commission. If negotiations about the directive would or could lead to restrictions or an outright ban, they were unaware of it.

"It's far from clear that this applies. [The directive] is about identifying various products that have energy-saving aspects and approving them for marketing in the internal market and setting standards for them. It's not a ban-type directive."

For Dr Matt Prescott, founder of the Ban the Bulb campaign, failing to legislate is a "blasé waste of public money" if nothing else.

"How can you justify wasting so much money unnecessarily?" he asks. "Everyone says a ban is too difficult, without knowing why. The Germans are saying: 'We'd love to ban them, but we can't do it unilaterally'; Britain is saying: 'We cannot do it'; but if you've got Britain and Germany both saying they want it to happen, then it can happen.

"Petty bureaucracy and rules are selectively used - where there's a will, there's a way."

The UK has set itself the target of a 60 per cent cut in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, but Dr Prescott fears that if even the simple lightbulb cannot be changed, then there is little chance of meeting it.

"If we cannot do lightbulbs, how are we ever going to deal with cars and buildings? This is the very smallest thing, and we are struggling with that," Dr Prescott says.

But perhaps the market or people-power will win the day. And is a ban even necessary? Dr Prescott would actually only tax incandescents, not ban them, and Mr Thornton does not think outlawing them is necessary.

"The reality of the situation is it is so cost-effective to do that, there is such a very compelling case for using them, that I don't necessarily see that a ban is the way forward," he says.

• Additional reporting by Raymond Hainey

Eco-friendly lighting has its dark side

THEY may be more environmentally friendly, but many consumers still do not like the quality of light compact fluorescent (CF) energy saving bulbs give off.

Clare Smith, 32, a marketing manager from Midlothian, said: "They definitely look different. We have half energy efficient and half not in our house.

"Eventually I suppose we should go fully green, but it will make the house feel colder and I'm not sure I want that."

There are also environmental implications to using the energy efficient bulbs.

Lighting expert Scott Ferrier, of David Brown Lighting in Edinburgh, said that, although CF bulbs use a lot less electricity than old-style lightbulbs, they are more complicated to produce, and more energy is used in the manufacturing process.

He said that CF bulbs also contained more chemicals, including highly toxic mercury, which could cause problems at the disposal stage.

Mr Ferrier added: "From a holistic point of view, from manufacture to recycling, some of the efficiencies can be diminished."

But he said: "Using CF bulbs reduces people's electricity bills - you are getting the same amount of power, but using less energy."

Greenpeace India set up a Ban The Bulb petition

Greenpeace India have set up a Ban The Bulb petition.

Their petition to Sushil Kumar Shinde, the Minister of Power in India, says the following:

Dear Minister,

You're aware that climate change is the biggest environmental threat India is facing.

Burning coal to generate electricity is leading to increase in global temperatures, changing monsoon patterns, faster melting of Himalayan glaciers and rising sea levels. India will be one of the worst affected countries. Large parts of India's coastal cities like Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai will be submerged, while agriculture and fisheries production will decrease, and vector-borne diseases such as dengue will become commonplace.

We only have a few more years before climate change reaches the point of no return. Every day, India uses 18,000 MW of electricity for lighting; most of it is wasted by the use of inefficient ordinary light bulbs. To reduce CO2 emissions, India must become more energy efficient.

Compact Fluorescent Lamps use only 20% of the energy used by an ordinary light bulb. By replacing all ordinary light bulbs with CFLs, we can reduce India's CO2 emissions by 55 million tonnes.

You have the power and responsibility to bring about this change by announcing a total ban on incandescent light bulbs by 2010, and to make CFLs more readily accessible to the common man.

As a supporter of Greenpeace’s campaign, I urge you to do the right thing not just for my generation, but for future ones as well.

Please go here if you would like to sign the Ban The Bulb! petition

Ban The Bulb wishes Greenpeace India well with their petition and hopes that a light bulb ban will be forthcoming in India.
