Beginning Thursday, gamers can check in to specific titles on GetGlue to unlock rewards. GetGlue and Xbox have teamed up to offer users a variety of stickers and rewards, ranging from the easy to the almost impossible to unlock. The latter have been specifically engineered for the game junkies among us.
The GetGlue Xbox hookup came to fruition after Microsoft sought out the startup to reward gamers with checkin and activity incentives, according to CEO Alex Iskold. Iskold believes Microsoft’s interest is especially telling given that Xbox has been early to adopt game mechanics on its own.
GetGlue, which is fast-approaching 900,000 members, has already forged partnerships with more than three dozen entertainment companies, but the Xbox deal points to a blue ocean in the video gaming sector.
For now, gamers will need to use one of GetGlue’s mobile apps to check in to Xbox titles, but console integration is almost certainly in the works. Iskold was reluctant to go on the record about integration, but did indicate that the startup is gearing up to announce additional video game partnerships, and left the door open for set-top box and console integration.
