The stellar Kinect sales helped Microsoft post a net income of $6.6 billion on revenues of $19.95 billion for its fiscal second quarter, which ended December 31, 2010. But sales of that product weren’t the only factor. Microsoft’s business division grew 24% year-over-year and Office 2010 was the fastest-selling consumer version of Office in history with license sales more than 50% ahead of Office 2007 during the equivalent period after launch.
Microsoft also said that Windows 7 continues to be the company’s fastest-growing operating system yet. Microsoft has sold more than 300 million Windows 7 licenses and the OS is running on 20% of Internet-connected PCs. Microsoft didn’t divulge any sales figures around Windows Phone 7, but noted that developers are adding apps based on Windows Phone 7 at the rate of 100 per day.
Microsoft released the Xbox Kinect in November and sold 2.5 million units in less than a month.
