Blogger Interview # 22: Shalet Jimmy

1. Can you tell us a little about yourself and your blog?

I am Shalet Jimmy. I am from Thrissur, which is the cultural capital of Kerala and currently I am residing at Trivandrum. To talk about myself, I am a very straight forward person who is liberal in outlook, fun loving, amiable etc. etc.

It was while doing electronic journalism, I heard about blogging for the first time as we had to deal with Television, internet and radio. Initially, I had no clue how it worked, but in course of time I somehow managed though I am still a toddler.

I have mainly two blogs www.thedoveandtheraven.blogspot.com, where I write what I feel like writing. My second blog www.shaletrjimmy.blogspot.com was primarily made to showcase my works as a copy writer. But as I resigned the job, I transformed it into a blog where I talk about books and everything related with it.The third blog www.theviewsofanindian.blogspot.com is dormant for quite a long time. I will be working on it soon.

2.  Are you a full time blogger? How did you get into blogging and why?

I am not a full time blogger. I do blog when I am not working. As I said, I got into blogging while I was doing journalism. I wanted to write and there was nobody around me to guide. So I was looking for a platform to write and when I got it I grabbed the opportunity.Moreover, I really got intense support from the blogging fraternity that really helped me to go on with my writing through blogging. 

3. If someone was interested in blogging, what would be a few things you would suggest?

When I started blogging I made a lot of mistakes. I was so ignorant that I would create a new blog for a new post. I took my time to get into the track.You may not know at the outset what to write and what interests you the most in reading as well as writing. So I had to work right from the beginning. I started reading all the blogs, gave comments. When you give a comment you are giving an opportunity to the blogger to read your blog.They comment on your post which is a major driving force to go on. I am fortunate that I get tremendous support from my followers. Last but not the least, keep writing, writing and writing. 

4. How do you build a community around a blog and social media?

As I already said,  I read all the blogs I follow and comment on their posts and also I reply back if someone commentrs on my posts. I have joined in www.bookblogs.ning.com and www.shelfari.com.

5. What are your three favorite blogs to read? What makes those blogs special?

Three? I have more....

I love to read randomblogs as well all the blogs followed by me, as i had followed them because I liked them and it makes them special :P

   I really like the"live traffic feed " , though i don't have this plugin at my spacedue to some personal reasons but it helps you to get information about thevisitors of the blog.

1. *Can you tell us a little about yourself and your blog?*

My name is Carol and I am a wife,homeschooling mom of one and an Administrative Support Consultant (http://www.carolda.com).

I have a personal blog called Simple Catholic Living (http://www.simplecatholicliving.com/)that is updated 4-5 days a week and my business blog (http://www.carolda.com/blog) that is updated once a week.

2. *Are you a full time blogger? How did you get into blogging and why?*

I am not a full time blogger. I started blogging as a marketing tool for my business a few years ago, but wasn't very consistent about posting until recently. I started my personal blog a little less than a year ago.

3. *If someone was interested in blogging, what would be a few things you would suggest?*

Blog about something you love. If you post with any regularity, posting about something you love will make it easier for you to come up with topics to write about and blogging will be a more enjoyable experience.

4. *How do you build a community around a blog and social media?*

I think building a community should be done organically. As you meet and interact with others, you will naturally attract others with the same mindset, interests, and a community will grow on it's own. Of course, you can help things along by taking the time to visit and comment on other blogs, automatically sending your blog posts to Twitter and Facebook,participating in various memes and "blog hops", and responding to comments left on your own blog. :)

5. *What are your three favorite blogs to read? What makes those blogs  special?*

Gosh, that's hard to answer. I have a variety of blogs that I read for different reasons; and, since I am subscribed to over 100 blogs in my RSS reader, there's no way I can pick just three!

6. *Which one plugin would you suggest all bloggers to have?*

That's tough to answer since different people use different blogging platforms. I use Wordpress.org and there are tons of free plug-ins that are fantastic.

Akismet comes pre-installed and essential for weeding out spam. "Thank Me Later" and Commentluv" are great for encouraging comments and interaction (and building community). Login lockdown helps prevent hackers from

hijacking into your WP dashboard. There are many others.

Blogger Interview # 19: Sylvia Kirkwood

1.     Can you tell us a little about yourself and your blog?

My name is Sylvia Kirkwood, I am retired and live in Seattle, Washington. I was born and raised in Texas. I have four grown children. I have worked as a teacher, was involved in little theater for a number of years. Until I retired nine years ago, I was the assistant to the president of a silicon wafer manufacturing plant. I have been fortunate to be able to travel and have lived in Germany, Spain, Mexico and have visited Italy, France, Greece and Switzerland. 

2.     Are you a full time blogger? How did you get into blogging and why?

I became interested in blogging after retiring as I found a need to have something to be involved in, something that I enjoyed. I started the blog without any ideas of just what I wanted to blog about, but then my son gave me a camera one day and suggested I try photography. Blogging and photography was the beginning a whole new phase in my life and I loved that it offered me the opportunity to be creative, to be involved and learn more about other people all over the world and to be able to share the beauty of my world with others through photography.

3.     If someone was interested in blogging, what would be a few things you would suggest?

For those interested in blogging I would suggest focusing on an area that is important to you, that inspires you, something that you would love to share with others. Learn as much as you can about the most effective way to display/share whatever is important to you. Visit other blogs and do comment because it is from those comments that we not only encourage people, but can share our thoughts and feelings. Comments are a wonderful way to show our appreciation for others efforts, just as we hope others will do for us.

4.     How do you build a community around a blog and social media?

This is also the very best way to build a community around your blog. Reaching out to other bloggers by sharing your photos, your writing/poetry etc. and your thoughts are great ways to establish contact with those who have the same interests. Taking part in the various Memes that are available is also a wonderful way to be able to establish communication with those who have similar interests.

5.     What are your three favorite blogs to read? What makes those blogs special?

It's very hard to narrow down my favorite blogs to read, but three of them are: Mumbai Daily, Gappa, Nature Digital. The first two are blogs from India and in spite of traveling a good bit during my life, one country/people that I knew very little about was India and once I discovered these blogs I became totally fascinated with the country and its people and I follow/correspond with a number of bloggers in India these days. The third blog is one of a terrific photographer in Greece. And Greece being another one of my favorite places as well as one that I have visited, it was easy for this blog to become a favorite.

6.     Which one plugin would you suggest all bloggers to have? 

I'm sure everyone has a favorite, but I find Adobe Reader and Flash Player to be helpful.

No, I work a full time job and then go home to be a wife and'mother' to our 2 cats.  I got into blogging about 3.5 years ago when afriend began a blog and I thought 'I can do that, I can use it as a way to showoff my photos.

I would highly suggest that you pick a subject, theme thatallows you to be you, to show off your talents as a writer or photographer ...I would also say it very important to reply to all the comments you receivepersonally via email since not everyone has the time or opportunity to returnto your blog to see if you've replied.  Of course there are many peoplewho dont have their emails linked to their names when they comment, somethingeasily fixed in the Blogger Comment section of Settings.  Visit otherblogs, leave comments, thank people for visiting ... and join groups like SkyWatchor My World

1)Can you tell us a little about yourself and your blog?

I'm an American-born mom of two living in Central Israel. I blog at Around the Island and have an online etsy shop - Around the Island Photography. Both my blog and my etsy shop specialize in fine art and nature photography from around Israel and around the world. I've also developed a new fine art photography concept - custom Photoverse prints - where the customer combines my image with the verse of their choice. My blog is primarily a photoblog but I also include snippets and tidbits from my life here in Israel and my travels abroad.

2)Are you a full time blogger? How did you get into blogging and why?

I'm not a full-time blogger, though I'd love to be one if I could do so. For now, I keep my blog ad-free, except for promoting my own online shop and that of other independent artists.

3)If someone was interested in blogging, what would be a few things you would suggest?

Just do it. Blogging is incredibly fulfilling and can create a really strong sense of community. My blog friends are no less "real" to me than the friends who live around the corner.

4)How do you build a community around a blog and social media?

Comment, comment and then comment again. Be a part of the dialogue, and the community will build itself.

5)What are your three favorite blogs to read? What makes those blogs special?

Wow, this is a tough question, I read so many wonderful blogs. For awesome photography tips and free Photoshop actions I love The CoffeeShop Blog, for inspiration from an insanely talented group of women I love Female Photographers of Etsy (FPOE, I'm proud to be one of the members of this outstanding etsy team) and for comic relief I have to admit that I'm completely addicted to FAILBlog.

Start with a statcounter so you can see who's out there reading and how they got there.

1)Can you tell us a little about yourself and your blog?

I started blogging as a part of publishing my long written poems which in the mean time became a platform to expose my feelings and thoughts.I am managing two blogs at present namely Inside My Poem Book and The Perpetual Mind.In Inside My poem Book ,as the name indicates its full of poetries based on a concept and experimented with different poetry forms.My Perpetual Mind blog is a food for my searching mind to try and research my thoughts.Vedic Maths,as a Maths lover has taken a part of space under this blog.I am in the verge of completing a new project , a Tamil Novel blogged in WP and yet to be released out for Public.This will come under the Perpetual blog under the menu "Novel"

I don't go on to build communities due to unavailable of time.Yet being a member of one or two communities like Indiblogger and social networking sites (FB) helps me to publicize my blog.

Favourite Blogs?..Oh..there are lots of talented writers and beautiful blogs around.

I read all the blogs in my blogroll and those who comment my blog to acknowledge them back

6)Which one plugin would you suggest all bloggers to have?

As for plugins,I would suggest the Google Translator Plugin for the reason in whatever language you write,your writings can be reached even to the persons who don't know your language with this wonderful plugin.

1. Can you tell us a little about yourself and your blog?

I love being myself and am very dynamic in emotions.

 I blog almost daily. Long back, I started blogging anonymously. Then somehow they started recognizing my writing style and connecting it with me. So had to come out of the closet. :( I came into blogging because it was a way to vent out my thoughts, which were in excess even for my blabbering mouth..

3. If someone was interested in blogging, what would be a few things you would suggest?

Write from your heart about things you feel strongly about. Trust me, people love it!

4. How do you build a community around a blog and social media?

I treasure a person instead of a community I build around my blog. Make sure there is always a one to one communication with the people you want to stay connected.

The one I read the most is my own blog. I just love the way I write.. At least most of the time... Then I follow http://amit414voice.blogspot.com/ and http://lenseandsensibility.blogspot.com/

I am a noob. I dont even have any idea what a plug in is. But I know one thing. Shockwave and Java is essential for a lot of things to load. So, if you dont have them, get them installed now!

Blogger Interview # 14 : Rajlakshmi

1. Can you tell us a little about yourself and your blog?

I am Rajlakshmi, a blogger from Assam. I blog at
Destiny’s child(www.destinychildosheen.blogspot.com) and
Poetry wagon(www.thepoetrywagon.blogspot.com)

I have got three active blogs and most of the time I find myself shuttling between these three. Destiny’s Child is like a Live blog. A cut copy paste of my life. Although sometimes I venture into fiction writing, but I find the ‘mis’adventures in my life far more interesting than the fiction I come up with. {smiles}

2. Are you a full time blogger? How did you get into blogging and why?

Even though I am not a full time blogger, all my time and thoughts are spent in and around blogging  (a hopeless case of bloggessive disorder :P)

I have completed 2 plus years of blogging and if you ask me why and how I started, I can only say – Just like that. But unlike initial days, over a period of time, the passion to write and read has tripled.

3. If someone was interested in blogging, what would be a few things you would suggest?

Some basic things that needs to be kept in mind:

Be innovative with the topics
Double check grammar
Proof read the content
Don’t use SMS lingo if you are writing a fictional piece.
And never get disheartened if you are not receiving any comments. If your articles are good, you will definitely gain audience.

4. How do you build a community around a blog and social media?

I follow a huge number of blogs. There are times when I am not able to reply to the comments I receive, but I always make it point to read and comment on any update from other blogs.

5. What are your three favorite blogs to read? What makes those blogs special?

Since I read a lot of blogs, I cannot narrow down to three. Each writer has a unique style of writing that inspires and appeals me.

I guess Iam a slightly delusional expressionist! I spend a lot of my time on theinternet, watching movies and writing. I used to be an active photographer, butthat passion has taken a back seat for a while.

Notreally. Since I work as an eBiz specialist at Honeywell Process Solutions, I amusually not able to post like a full time blogger. I do, however, try to postatleast thrice a week.

I startedblogging sometime in 2006, when social media, networking and collaboration wasbeginning its boom in India. Initially, it served the purpose of a journal, asI was not aware of the marketing potential of a blog. I would feel very happywhen a friend or two left a comment on my ramblings. No later than a year andafter numerous trials and errors, I realized that, apart from being a journal,my blog could be an information conservatory.

3. If someone was interested inblogging, what would be a few things you would suggest?

To beginwith, I would ask aspiring bloggers to blog regularly and always remember thatContent is King. If your content is not useful or entertaining to the reader,your blog will not lay golden eggs. Emphasize on creating an error/typo freeblog. Trust me I have learnt it the hard way.

4. How do you build a community arounda blog and social media?

Since Iam huge fan of micro blogging, my first love is Facebook, followed by twitter. ButI have also utilized Google Buzz, Technorati, networked blogs and mybloglog.Collaborating your blog with these social media sites helps drive traffic toyour blog. Back linking could also be useful if you link blogs relevant to yourblog.

Blogger Interview # 12 : Adriana Ritt

 Adriana Ritt 

1. Can you tell us a little about yourself and your blog?

My name is Adriana Ritt and I am from Romania. I am a 60+ young blogger, who started her blog on June, this year. I am teaching Public Relations and Organizational Communication at the University, so I live among young people and this keeps me young too, I guess. I have two grown up children: a son, who lives already for 14 years in Vancouver, Canada and a daughter, who lives with us. I love to travel, to read and to photograph, not necessarily in this order. I read history and fiction and I like science fiction movies very much.

2.  Are you a full time blogger? How did you get into blogging and why?

I am not a full time blogger as I still am full time teaching. I traveled extensively during last 20 years, that is after the Romanian revolution because we were not allowed before to travel, except to the former communist countries. Also, the first 10 years f this period, I have been involved in more international university projects, which enables me to travel in many European Countries. Having a lot of pictures and writing with great pleasure, I wanted to share my travel impressions with different people having the same interest and so I started to blog.

3.  If someone was interested in blogging, what would be a few things you would suggest?

 

First, I would say you must choose a theme and stick with it. The name of the blog should comply with the theme. To document what you say, choose your best photos. Keep in mind that blogging means sharing and this enables dialogue. If you are not a dialogue person, if you do not like to listen and you want only to talk, then don't go into blogging. People need information but they also like to comment and to put questions. Take yourself and them seriously!

4. How do you build a community around a blog and social media?

 

Of course there are many methods to do this. I will tell you only which are mine. I answer to all comments left on my posts. I visit other's blogs and leave comment there. It's a common sense action to return the visit to the person who took time to visit you. I also visit some bloggs from the blogroll of those who are in my blogroll.I put questions which wait for answers and so I buil dialogue. I visit bloggs resulted from searching machines and leave comments. I am still considering going on Facebook but I am not interested in Twitter.

5. What are your three favorite blogs to read? What makes those blogs special?

I cannot say which are my favourite blogs because I like those which are in my blogroll for a reason or other, and so I read them every day. Some of them are related with a future country, which I intend to visit and provide me valuable information about that country. In some cases I withdraw them from the blogroll after that. It depends on the style of the blogger and on the relationship I built with him/her during the time. I don't like to keep on my blogroll people who do not react to comments I left on their bloggs or who will not visit, in return, my blog. Then I simply consider they do not want that dialogue or are not interested in the content of my blog.

6. Which one plugin would you suggest all bloggers to have?

I am not very interested in plugin or gadgets and I am not a specialist in this kind of stuff. Nevertheless I put some statistics connected plugin on my blog. My daughter helps me with this :)
