Web Host Intermedia Partners with Mozy for New Online Backup Service

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Web hosting provider Intermedia (www.intermedia.net) announced last week that it has partnered with Mozy (www.mozy.com) to create a new online backup service for small- and medium-sized enterprises. The new service will launch this week and is the company's first "foray into backup," according to a report by Information Week.

According to the report, this move is Intermedia's part of its increased focus on data protection and security. 

The new service is part of the company's "beyond the mailbox" strategy that combines recent product launches including encryption, hosted PBX with unlimited domestic VoIP telephone service and unified communications.

Jonathon McCormick, Intermedia's chief operating officer told Information Week that this product is the first that focuses on data protection for the mobile user.

This product will "be an increasingly important differentiation strategy for hosted Exchange providers," according to the report. 

"Exchange is at a point where, over the next couple of years, you'll see more and more commoditization of the market," McCormick told Information Week. 

According to the report, pricing starts at $5 per machine, per month for 4GB of storage. Intermedia will sell additional storage in 10GB increments for $5 per machine, per month.

Intermedia says it manages more than 300,000 premium Microsoft Exchange mailboxes.

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Managed hosting and data center provider Peak 10 (www.peak10.com) announced on Tuesday that it has been recognized for the third consecutive year by the annual Stevie Awards for Sales & Customer Service (www.stevieawards.com). The company's senior manager for support services, Jeffrey Brooks, won the Customer Service Manager of the Year award. Peak 10 was also a finalist in the Front-Line Customer Service Team of the Year and the Customer Service Department of the Year - IT & Telecommunications categories.

Peak 10 recently expanded its data center in Richmond, Virginia and completed a company-wide SSAE 16 audit of its data center and managed services.

According to the announcement, the Stevie Awards organize several of the world's leading business awards shows including the American Business Awards and International Business Awards. 

The Stevie Awards were presented on Monday, February 21, in Miami Beach, Florida. The event benefited Camfed, an organization that supports the education of females in Africa.

“This year’s class of honorees illustrates that no matter your organization’s size, industry, budget or location, it’s possible to excel at the two most important functions in business: acquiring and keeping customers,” Michael Gallagher, the president of the Stevie Awards said in a statement.

There were more than 800 entries from organizations "in virtually every industry" submitted to this year's competition. According to the press release, this is an increase of over 60 percent over 2010.

The awards had 25 categories for customer service professionals including Contact Center of the Year, Award for Innovation in Customer Service and Customer Service Department of the Year. This year the Stevies included categories to recognize new products and services and solutions providers.

This launch comes two months after the company opened its Asia-Pacific operations in Singapore.

According to the company, its DDoS mitigation solution leverages match algorithms to stop attacks and provide visibility into critical applications such as VoIP/SIP, DNS, HTTP and P2P.

“When you consider our reliance on technology and web operations there is a climate of fear over the harm that a cyber-attack could unleash.  We think DDoS protection should be available to all organisations irrespective of size and ControlCircle with its technology partners has made this a reality,” Milkins stated.
