New. Just announced today, if you use Microsoft's Live Search
(http://www.live.com) - they'll give you free air miles rewards. Nope
this is not a hoax, but my marketing analysis of this offering.
Visit http://www.getsearchperks.com and get started earning "perks" - up
to a max of 25 perks a day -when you use Microsoft's Live Search.
Look at all of the prizes at
http://www.getsearchperks.com/Prizes.aspx?campaignid=perks
Aside from Airline Miles - most of them are HOHUM. So let's see which
airlines we can use:
"Redeem your tickets for airline miles with airlines such as Alaska,
American Airlines, Delta, Frontier, Hawaiian, Midwest, and US Airways!
American Airlines reserves the right to change the AAdvantage program at
any time without notice. American Airlines is not responsible for
products or services offered by other participating companies. For
complete details about the AAdvantage program, visit
www.aa.com/aadvantage. American Airlines and AAdvantage are registered
trademarks of American Airlines, Inc."
-end of quote-
How long will it take to earn these?
This means you'll need 4 days to gain 100 perks and 40days (more than a
month) to earn 1000 perks - w/c I'm told will earn you some Airline
Miles. Not bad for using search - and very Jay Abraham-like of Microsoft
to offer something from the card business into search. I wonder if
Google (the leader) will do something in return?
Anyway look at the prizes you can get plus # days you have to use live
search to earn them.
An XBOX controller for 5500 tickets (use MS Live Search for 200 days)
A cookbook(!) for 3400 tickets (136 days)
1000 Airline Miles for 1800 tickets (72 days or 2+ months)
5 Music downloads for 525 tickets (use it for 21 days)
Tshirts for 1100 tickets (use it for 44 days)
Signing up will get you 500 bonus tickets.
So if you signup now and get 500 tickets, you only need to use
livesearch for 52 more days (almost 2 months) to get a 1000miles. Tell
me in the comments, is that bad?
Let's say you want to go from PHX to NY
Let's say you want to travel from Phoenix, AZ to New York, so you
already have 1000 miles after 2 months of signing up. You'll need 1500
more miles for a one way trip - so--72 more days to get another 1000
miles plus 36 days for 500 miles: 3.6 months. So in total to get a one
way trip from PHX to NY you'll have to use MS Live Search for FIVE AND A
HALF MONTHS from signup. And that's for one person only.
Tell me how does that compare to your normal US credit card reward?
And if you think this is only for their live search, think again! This
promo will only work if you're using Internet Explorer (IE!) -so it's
purposely targeted to the NOT GEEK crowd-and not all of them. The promo
is limited to the first 1,000,000 respondents before December 31, 2008.
Plus it's valid only for legal residents in the 50 United States and
Washington, D.C., who are at least 13 years of age, have a valid Windows
Live ID, are accepted to participate in the program and participate in
the program until its completion on April 15, 2009
Yes, us Pinoys will not be able to participate. They want the good old
American heartland to continue using their Microsoft Internet Explorer
(if you have to, please least upgrade it to Version 7 or 8!) and use the
"new" live search. Geeks need not comment on this as this is not
targeted to you. Try it in firefox and you'll get:
"To earn value for your searches and join the SearchPerks! promotion you
must have Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher to participate. Copy this URL
and paste it into Internet Explorer:
Sign up for SearchPerks! and start earning tickets towards exciting
prizes whenever you search the Web - up to 25 tickets per day. It's
free, easy to use, and your tickets accumulate as fast as you can
search.
And because SearchPerks! is brought to you by Microsoft Live Search, you
can count on rich, comprehensive search results.
Be sure to sign up before the registration deadline on December 31,
2008-the sooner you sign up, the more opportunity you have to earn."
-end of quote-
It makes sense that Microsoft is leapfrogging the early adopter crowd
for SearchPerks because of this crowd is HOSTILE towards the company and
loves firefox. They're going instead to the heart of their userbase.
So if you're in the US and you like IE, you must act now because you
gotta sign up before the end of this year (a deadline and a call to
action with an exclusivity clause - nice marketing touches)
